Cooking the Perfect White Rice

Cooking rice in your Zojirushi rice cooker is as easy as 1-2-3. Long grain, short grain, jasmine or basmati rice – they will all cook perfectly every time. No stirring, watching or worrying about your rice. No more boilovers, burning or scorching. No more soggy, mushy rice. Just perfect rice time after time after time. Here’s how…

Step One

Measure the rice accurately using the plastic measuring cup that comes with every Zojirushi rice cooker and add to the inner cooking pan. If desired, wash the rice right in the inner cooking pan with plenty of cold water. Rub the grains of rice gently between the palms of your hands. Tip the pot to drain as much water as possible without spilling the rice. No need to use a colander. Repeat 3 or 4 times.

Step Two

Using the markings in the inside of the inner cooking pan as a guide, add cold water to the rice up to the level marking that corresponds to the number of cups of rice used. Be sure that all the grains of rice are submerged and the surface of the rice is flat and level to ensure even cooking.

Step Three

Wipe off any excess water from the outside of the inner cooking pan and place it in the Main Body of the rice cooker. Close the lid securely, plug in the rice cooker and press the cooking switch to start.

That’s it! The Zojirushi rice cooker does the rest. When the rice is ready, most models of rice cookers will turn off and switch to a “Keep Warm” cycle automatically. Before opening the lid, allow the cooked rice to “rest” for about 15 minutes to completely absorb any excess moisture. On some advanced models this is done automatically.

After the “rest” period, open the cooker and use the special nonstick rice spatula that comes with every Zojirushi rice cooker to fluff and serve your perfect-every-time rice.
